Licking County Jail Roster

The Licking County, Ohio Jail Inmate Roster is a public resource that allows anyone to check who is currently in custody at the county facility. LickingCourt.us helps find publicly available information about current and recently released inmates. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official sheriff's online registry, by phone, or by visiting the facility in person. The roster allows you to check detention status, charges filed, and bail information. It is maintained by the Licking County Sheriff's Office, data is updated regularly and posted on the county's website.

Note: Information about juvenile offenders is not included in the public roster. To start a search, you will need the person's full legal name; a booking number will expedite the process if you know it.

Find Licking Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a person is officially admitted to the facility. This is not the same as a court record — booking records the fact of admission to jail.

During booking, the following data is generated:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • Charges filed (with classification — felony or misdemeanor)
  • Arresting agency (sheriff, Newark police, another municipality, or holding on another county's warrant)
  • Bail information — amount, type (cash, surety), and conditions

Active booking records are displayed on the inmate registry page. After a person is released, their record disappears from this list. If you need access to past booking records, submit a public records request through the county commissioners' office or contact the Sheriff's Office directly.

For individuals transferred to state facilities after sentencing, a search is available through the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction system.

Search the Licking Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The official county roster operates as an alphabetical list — it is not a search form with separate fields.

Search by Last Name

Click on the first letter of the last name at the top of the roster page. The system will filter the list and show only individuals whose last name starts with that letter. Then scroll through the list or use Ctrl+F.

Some tips:

  • Enter the last name exactly as it appears in official documents — including hyphens, suffixes (Jr., Sr., III).
  • If the last name is common, also check the first name and charges to identify the correct person.
  • Try spelling variations if the first search yields no results.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is usually displayed next to each inmate's record. If you already know this number, Ctrl+F with the number entered is the fastest way to find the desired record.

What to Do if the Search Yields No Results

  1. Ensure the last name is spelled correctly.
  2. The person may have already been released — the roster shows only those in custody at the time of viewing.
  3. There may be a delay between the actual arrest and the appearance of the record in the system.
  4. Call the Justice Center (740-670-5501) for clarification.
  5. If the person was sentenced and transferred to a state facility, use the DRC offender search.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Licking

The inmate roster is updated throughout the business day, but it is not a real-time system with second-by-second updates. In practice, there may be a delay of several minutes to several hours between the time of arrest and the appearance of the record on the website — depending on the facility's workload and data processing speed.

Main limitations to be aware of:

  • Only current inmates. After release, transfer, or posting bail, the record is deleted. The roster is not an archive of all past bookings.
  • Data entry delay. Night or weekend arrests may appear in the system with a noticeable delay.
  • Minors are absent. Records of individuals under 18 are not published.
  • Holding on other counties' warrants. Sometimes a person is in the Licking County jail on another county's warrant — in such cases, charge details may be limited.

If you need information about past bookings or archival records, visit the inmate information page on the sheriff's website or submit a written public records request. For state-level criminal history checks, the Ohio Attorney General offers a background check service through BCI.
